Studying images of Loulouyah Beach and the general surroundings of Khorfakkan we decided, as a first step, to raise the platform of the pavilion above the “hot” sands that define the landscape of the area.
The sea and the incoming breeze inspired us to develop the pavilion horizontally and to create a mechanism through which the wind would be harnessed towards enhancing the experience of the pavilion, not just in a visual manner, but also a sensual one.
Thus we decided that the pavilion would be formatted by an array of cropped curtains; they would direct the wind through the space, while their gentle sway in the breeze would create visual interest and an impression of cool and relaxed relief.
To accentuate horizontality, lightness and a refined aesthetic we decided to retract the structural poles towards the interior of the space, hidden amidst the array of curtains.
